DESERT SEMINARS

Desert seminars offer students an extraordinary experience that deals with the desert and life in the Negev. Subjects that revolve around the desert are comprised of history, ecology, biology and the people who live here.

Our experienced guides teach about the past, the present and the future. Students learn how plants and animals live and how ancient civilizations survived in the desert. Subjects of Zionism, peace and our future ambitions of living in the desert are discussed. The peace border between Israel and Egypt is visited.

Students are not taught in a conventional classroom method. They are taught by experiencing the desert through means of bicycles, hikes, camping trips, camel and donkey rides and searches for specific animals. Other activities that teach the students include computers and putting on plays.

The outdoor classroom setting is unique in yet another way. It is taught by the Shin Shineem, post high school students who volunteer one year on behalf of society before starting their mandatory army service. The students relate very well to these young teachers and are eager to learn from them.

In between their studies, students enjoy going to the pool for a swim, visiting with friends, good food and air conditioned accommodations.

Desert seminars are individually tailored to meet the needs of each group. No group is too large or too small. Programs range from a few hours to one week long programs.

SCHOOL TRIPS

At Nitzana we organize field trips for students that incorporate studies of the desert, science, ecology, biology and astronomy. Trips last from one to three days and are for students who attend the 8th grade up to the 11th grade. You may choose from the type of activities listed above that would best suit your needs. We work closely with the school faculty to provide trips that focus on specific educational needs for the children and we try to accommodate your schedule wishes. We invite you to bring your school group for an educational experience that students won't forget.
