REGIONAL  SITES

   TEL NITZANA

Nearby sites include the ancient ruins of Tel Nitzana. The ruins show clearly that at one time this was a busy, bustling town. It is located on the next hill over from the present Nitzana with the beautiful Path of Peace running nearby.

The Path of Peace, an environmental sculpture created by Israeli artist Dani Karavan runs over 3,000 meters from the hills of Nitzana to the Israeli-Egyptian border.

It is made up of 100 round columns and on each column the word "PEACE" is inscribed in a different language. The languages represent the people who have traveled through or lived in this area down through the course of history. The languages of Hebrew and Arabic start and end the path.

Take a tour of the beautiful fruits, vegetables, flowers and fish that are grown in this arid desert region. Taste the salicornia and tomatoes. Sample the wine and honey. See for yourself the miracle of desert agriculture. At nearby Ezuz you can go for a camel or donkey ride. Visit Beerotayim for a real Bedouin experience and afterwards pamper yourself with a soothing massage, sauna and spa and stay in a cabin that overlooks the magnificent view of the desert.

The Negev is as interesting as it is diversified in what it has to offer in way of tourist sites. Visit the ancient ruins of Shivta and walk through the breathtaking canyons of Ein Avdat. Nearby is Midreshet Sde Boker, the home and burial place of Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister. A little further down the road is the huge crater at Mitzpe Ramon. Unlike the noisy city life and smog filled highways, here in the desert we have no noise and no pollution. What we do have is tranquility, peace and natural beauty to offer.
